Production

Hey everyone. Kowhai and Mana syndicates put on a FANTASTIC school production at the end of Term 3. It was called...'And so it began...'. It was about the Maori myth of separating Rangi and Papa, the sky father and earth mother. George was our lead. He was Tawhirmatea, god of the wind. Room 3, 20 and 21 all combined to do their dance. The girls were light breeze and the boys were a STRONG wind and a hurricaine. Everyone had a GREAT time and looked fantastic in their costumes.

Air Rocket Experiment

We have been doing science experiments about space. The film below is showing how rockets work. In this experiment the air is forcing itself out of the balloon which then pushes it forward. We used a wire, a straw, a balloon and some tape. We thought it was pretty cool. Take a look.

Room 3

Spaceship Art

As part of the Space Unit this term we have been doing some different artwork. Before starting our spaceship pictures we read the article from the newspaper about the new plane that can take people into space for the cost of $300,000. As a class we discussed the different spaceships we have seen on T.V. programmes and movies and talked about the way they looked and the things they had. What was it that you would need to go into space? These pictures are the creations we came up with. We hope you like them. Room 3 showed them to the whole school at the big assembly in week 7 of Term 2. Everyone was REALLY proud of their artwork.

SPACE ODYSSEY 2009

Space Odyssey 2009 is our integrated topic for Term 2. Already we have been brainstorming the things we already know about space and what we want to find out. Room 3 are now hypothesising, investigation and experimenting to find the answers to questions we want answers to. The children think it is AWESOME and have been bringing new resources and information to class which they have brought from home. We are loving exploring the universe. We look forward to sharing what we have learned with you.

Battle Hill

Wednesday 1st April 2009. Kowhai Syndicate had a Whanau Day at Battle Hill. We all did a number of different activities during the day with a break for lunch. We had a walk through the bush and along the river, looked at the eels, saying our Pepeha's, listening to stories, Andy Goldsworthy art...

We had a fantastic time and a big thanks to all the parents who helped with transport and groups.
